ABOUT Confessions is a grounded, present-day, one-hour, supernatural, sci-fi thriller series, exploring the multi-layered facets of sin and atonement. LOGLINE: After committing a sin in heaven, an angel (a former Spanish conquistador) is banished and he must roam the earth until fulfilling his penance, which is to compel sinners to carry out a penance of their own -- to right their wrongs and cleanse their souls. The fallen angel has been earth bound for 500-years, attempting to get back to heaven to reunite with his wife. Initially, he contacts sinners by using the one thing they all possess -- a phone. CONFESSIONS explores confession and atonement, as if your afterlife depends on it. After all, doesn’t it? Regardless of one’s spiritual beliefs, everyone has sins to confess. But some sins are deep, dark secrets that they can’t tell anyone, which got me thinking... What if a noble, honorable man destined to be a martyr, Manuel de Castillo, a 16th Century Spanish Conquistador and valiant warrior, who as he seized Central American civilizations, began to question his blind faith, convinced that what he was doing, in God’s name, was wrong. A truth he died believing. Manuel’s life was taken by his envious best friend, Juan, who wanted everything Manuel had -- courage, glory, and his wife, Lara. But after Lara, a fiery indigenous healer, rejects Juan, he kills her too. In heaven, Manuel, an angel, does the unthinkable. He seeks revenge, resulting in Juan’s death. Manuel is banished from heaven and exiled on earth until he fulfills his penance, which is to compel sinners to confess their sins and fulfill a penance of their own, to right their wrongs and cleanse their souls. On earth, Manuel is a Fallen Angel. He’s been roaming the world for 500 years haunted by his past, desperately attempting to get back to heaven, to reunite with Lara. Each sinner Fallen Angel compels to atone, brings him closer to heaven. Fallen Angel initially contacts sinners by using the one thing they all possess -- a phone. But how many sinners must he make confess? He does not know. Only that he’s working his way back to Lara -- one soul at a time.
